Furnace flashing 7 times: what 7 flashes means
The number of flashes on a furnace control board is not a standard. Every manufacturer assigns its own meanings, and 7 flashes means something different across the 6 control families below.
On an Armstrong it is primary or secondary limit open, or Watchguard after three minutes open, on a Goodman it is flame signal is too weak, and on a Heil it is soft lockout — limit trips taking longer than two minutes to reset.
This isn't one fault appearing three ways: seven flashes covers three distinct, unrelated problems. There's no telling which applies until the brand is identified.

What 7 flashes usually points to
7 flashes returns to the limit switch and ignition lockouts: Armstrong, Heil and York all report a limit trip or a lockout that followed one, and Goodman reports a flame signal present but too weak to sustain ignition. Trane is the exception, reporting a gas valve circuit error at 7 flashes instead. A weak flame signal is usually a flame sensor that needs cleaning, checked with a microamp reading rather than fixed by resetting the board. That keeps 7 flashes closer to 4 flashes' limit-switch theme than to 6 flashes' rollout-and-wiring mix or 8 flashes' grounding-and-hardware group next.
