Trane furnace E18: Blower communication failure on the control
E18 is the blower communication failing at the control end rather than at the motor. Trane's wording places the failure on the control, which is the useful distinction from E17.

What it means
E17 and E18 describe the same broken conversation from opposite ends. E17 is no response from the motor; E18 is a communication failure on the control. That distinction is worth a great deal on a repair, because the two point at different parts, and the parts differ enormously in price. Replacing a variable speed blower module because the control's communication circuit had failed is an expensive way to not fix a furnace. - If the control's communication circuit has genuinely failed, that is a board replacement, and whatever damaged it should be found.
