Armstrong furnace LED off: No power to the control, or a control hardware fault
A dark LED means either no power reaching the control or a hardware fault in the control itself. Allied Air groups both, so a dark light does not by itself mean the board is dead.
Applies to: Allied Air Enterprises A80UH1E and 80G1UHE gas furnaces with the -02 integrated control, sold as Armstrong Air, AirEase, Concord and Ducane.
What it means
Allied Air's wording covers two possibilities at once: no power to control, or control hardware fault detected. That grouping matters because the first is usually trivial and the second is a board replacement. Before assuming the worse case, it is worth knowing how many ways a furnace removes its own power deliberately — the blower door switch cuts supply whenever the panel is off, the service switch looks exactly like a light switch, and there is a breaker and usually a low voltage fuse as well.
Most common causes
- The blower compartment door is off or not seated, opening the door switch.
- The furnace service switch has been turned off. It looks like an ordinary light switch.
- The circuit breaker for the furnace has tripped or been switched off.
- A blown low voltage fuse, usually caused by a short in the thermostat wiring.
- A failed transformer, so there is no 24 volt supply.
- A control hardware fault, which Allied Air groups under the same indication.
- A fault in the 115 volt supply to the furnace.
How to diagnose it
- Check the service switch near the furnace first. It is the most common answer and takes a second.
- Check the breaker panel for a tripped furnace breaker.
- Understand the door switch before concluding anything — removing the panel to look at the light is what turns the light off.
- Note whether the thermostat display is blank, which points at the low voltage side.
- Note whether the breaker trips again immediately after being reset. That is a fault, not an inconvenience.
How to fix it
- Turn the service switch back on, or reset the breaker, if either was off.
- Refit the blower door properly. A door that is not seated holds the switch open and the furnace will not run.
- If the breaker trips again immediately, stop and call a technician.
- A blown fuse, failed transformer or control hardware fault is technician work. A blown fuse in particular means a short somewhere, and replacing it without finding the short blows the next one.
- If the furnace or the area around it has been wet, do not power it up.
Notes
Because this control retains its error history through a power cut, restoring power does not lose anything. On most other manufacturers' boards, cycling power to test whether the furnace comes back is also what erases the evidence.

What the fix costs
This code spans the cheapest and priciest outcomes on the control, which is why diagnosis order matters. At the cheap end: a flipped service switch, a tripped breaker, or a blower door not quite seated cost a service call at most. In the middle: the low-voltage fuse — $5–150 per the control board cost guide, which warns specifically that a popped fuse impersonates a dead board. At the top: a genuinely failed board at $400–900 installed. A dead-board quote that arrives without anyone having mentioned the fuse deserves the question.
Do it yourself or call someone?
Three checks are safe and solve a surprising share of dark LEDs: the service switch beside the furnace (it looks exactly like a light switch, and gets flipped like one), the breaker at the panel, and the blower access panel — the door switch cuts all power whenever the panel is loose. All three happen without opening anything. Past those you are into meter work on live circuits; and if the fuse is blown, the shorted wire that blew it still needs finding, because a new fuse fitted without that answer is simply the next casualty.
A dark LED on other controls
Where the LED lives changes what its darkness means. On this control the LED is on the board, so no light points at board power.
