Armstrong furnace 5 flashes: Watchguard — burner failed to light, retries or recycles exceeded
Five flashes means the furnace exhausted its allowed retries or recycles without proving flame and entered Watchguard — Allied Air's term for a lockout.
Applies to: Allied Air Enterprises’ -02 integrated control ships in the A80UH1E and 80G1UHE gas furnace lines under four names — Armstrong Air, AirEase, Concord, and Ducane — and this code is the same on all of them.
What it means
Watchguard is a lockout state. This code means the control made its allowed attempts and stopped. Allied Air's wording covers both retries and recycles, which are different things: a retry is an attempt that never produced a flame, a recycle is a restart after a flame was established and lost. Both roads lead here. The practical consequence is that the furnace is not failing at the moment you read the code — it failed repeatedly some time ago and removed itself from service. - No gas reaching the burners — a closed valve, an empty propane tank, or a supply interruption.
- A failed hot surface igniter.
